What sort of homework do Beech Class get?

Reading Books
Reading books are sent home every day and it is expected that the children in Beech Class read for at least 10 minutes each night.

Spellings
Children will be given a list of spellings on a Monday and will have a spelling test each Friday. The spellings will be linked to the sounds that they learn in their phonics sessions each week.

Mental Maths
Year 2 children will be given some mental maths questions on Monday and will be tested each Friday.  The questions will cover many aspects of maths and enable children to have faster recall.

Big Talk
On Fridays your child will take part in 'Big Writing'. This is an opportunity for your child to write independently for an increasing period of time over the year. The saying goes that 'if you can't say it, you can't write it', so every Thursday your child will come home with a slip of paper with our 'Big Writing' topic for your child to discuss with you ready for the following day.

Homework Folder
Your child will also be given a homework folder on Tuesdays containing a short piece of literacy, numeracy or topic homework alternating each week.  This should be returned by the following Monday to be marked.

Star of the Week"

Each childs' name is selected at random and the children give a reason why they like having that person in Beech Class.  Their photograph is then displayed in the classroom for a week along with the class comments and presented to the star of the week by the next week's star.

Floppy Dog
Each Friday "Floppy Dog" will come home to spend the weekend with a child from Beech Class.  When Floppy come to visit you, please spend some time together writing in his diary and maybe include a drawing or photograph so your child can share Floppy's weekend adventures with the rest of the class the following week.
