Realising Potential

Every aspect of education at Hollingbourne School aims to maximise children’s potential for success in all areas of life.
We take very seriously the development of literacy and numeracy skills and expect high achievement from our pupils. We also want to see our children develop their creative skills, in music, art and design. Our “outdoor classroom” in its glorious setting below the North Downs is an important part of school life, where our children not only experience formal sport and P.E. lessons, but learn to play together within the natural environment and fresh country air.

The school site also includes a pond, a wildlife conservation area, trees and hedges, and a woodland area. These are widely used in the curriculum. Children are encouraged to take responsibility for their upkeep and to grow things in the garden area.

First hand experience is, we believe, vital in the development of children’s learning and thus we make frequent educational visits to develop their understanding.

At Hollingbourne, we provide many extra-curricular activities after school and during some of the lunch breaks. As well as games teams and the gym team, there is a computer club, an art club, infant and junior choirs, Maypole dance team and cookery club.

We are virtually unique in the value we place on social education: we organise residential weekends away for all children in years 1 to 6, giving a special opportunity for all our children wishing to share an enjoyable few days in a different environment. The weekends range from camping at school, through outdoor adventure centres, to a long weekend in France.

At Hollingbourne School, children are encouraged to develop their talents to the full, contributing positively and enthusiastically to school life. We aim to develop all pupils into confident, articulate and well-mannered children. One of the great advantages of a small school is that all children, who wish to, can be part of the choir, sports teams, and join any or all after school clubs.

In encouraging the children to experience a range of academic, sporting, musical and cultural activities, we prepare them well for transition to secondary schools and life beyond.

We would welcome a visit from you so that we can show you round the school to absorb our special family atmosphere and ethos.
