Creative Arts - enjoyment for life

Art music and drama are an essential part of life at Hollingbourne.  We place great emphasis on the skills and enjoyment involved in these activities, enhancing self-confidence, providing an outlet for creative talent, and a focus for performance.

Throughout the school art is integrated into all other subjects, providing visual learning references in literacy, maths and social studies.  It is also a subject taught in its own right: children explore a range of media, study famous artists and most importantly produce a range of their own work.  We also explore the potential for art in the natural environment and run a weekly after school art club.

At Hollingbourne, visiting specialist teachers enable all children learn a musical instrument, from ocarina in the infants to recorder and guitar in the juniors.  A visiting piano teacher also provides lessons on request.  Both infants and juniors have their own choir which meets and performs regularly, both in school and at other venues.  Music teaching includes composition, singing and appreciating music of different genres. We hold concerts each term to allow the children to show off their singing and instrumental prowess and are very proud of the high standard attained.

All children perform in theatrical productions during the course of the year.  These are major costume and musical extravaganzas which take place at Christmas and in the summer.
